Adding trees to your yard or to the community forest is beneficial to all Arkansans, and spring is an excellent time to plant trees! The Arkansas Department of Agriculture is celebrating Arbor Day by hosting its fifth annual “Free Tree Fridays” campaign, offering free bare root seedlings to Arkansans. The events will take place every Friday from March 21 through April 25 at various locations across the state.

Species will vary based on location, but will include a variety of the following species, donated to the campaign by the Arkansas Urban Forestry Council: cherrybark oak, eastern redbud, persimmon, red mulberry, and Shumard oak. Additional seedlings may be purchased in larger quantities from Baucum Nursery.

This year’s dates and locations are listed below and will be updated as new events are added. All giveaways are on a first-come, first-serve basis and will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until all seedlings are handed out.
